Legacies of the Civil War: Author Anita Quick explores how the rebellion of 1861 changed the American landscape and would forever change the way we live. The Civil War divided, and then defined our country, and we exist under its influence from the time we get up in the morning until we go to bed at night. Income tax, sized clothing, national holidays, the Medal of Honor, national cemeteries, and home delivery of mail were all instituted because of the war that would claim the lives of an estimated 750,000 Americans. It was the first modern war, with Napoleonic tactics giving way to trench warfare, and the first war where women played pivotal roles. Join us for this insightful program.
